![]() Verse #16 talks of his relation towards the youth around him now as a man of older age. Verse #6 talks about the Mature age while verse #12 talks about the Youth again. Verse #4 is his relationship with his young years. "La Juventud and La Vejez" therefore the author technique to give them female attributes along the poem and contrast them with actual loves in his live in some of the parts in the poem as it happens in verse #2. The Youth and the Mature age are given female articles in the Spanish language. In the Spanish language the first set of words that accompany the subject are call the article and the big difference from the English language is that even things get a female or male connotation. ![]() The bottom line is the poem is about his youth and mature age. Salomon de la Selva did a good work with the available tools and skills he had to do the translation or transliteration. ![]() Moreover the author liberty to use similes and metaphors will make the poem understanding even more challenging, since this techniques will likely be use by not only comparing the cultural background of the author but also the era and time will play a tremendous factor in the understanding. Even poems in the same language but from different regions or cultural backgrounds will bring their own territorial meaning. no language is 100% congruent with another.
